CCC Steelhead Restoration Team

The Southern California Steelhead population has reached the lowest population levels since its listing and is on the verge of extinction. The release of the Federal Recovery Plan for Southern California Steelhead in 2012 identified that there is a critical need to increase restoration efforts in the project area while populations of steelhead persist. The Fish Habitat Specialist (FHS) and Fish Habitat Assistant (FHA) positions will enable the CCC to plan and implement fishery restoration projects in multiple counties and watersheds to improve the recovery of Southern Steelhead.

This project will benefit salmonid habitat by performing outreach informing landowners and the general public about the need for habitat restoration and the removal of barriers for the endangered Southern California Steelhead trout. This outreach will fuel coordination and creation of multiple habitat restoration and barrier removal projects for Steelhead trout as well as increasing awareness of the anthropomorphic impacts on steelhead and their habitat.
