Description

SRF proposes to educate stakeholders in the Five County region about coho recovery strategies including flow enhancement and habitat restoration techniques and associated legal considerations including water rights, regulatory compliance, and permitting. The goals and outcomes of the project are to: 1) educate landowners about the effects of unregulated water use on streams and aquatic species; 2) encourage water conservation techniques and compliance with state water law; 3) identify cooperating landowners and agencies to develop implementation projects that would have multiple beneficial uses and increase stream flows; 4) educate landowners and planners about sediment and erosion control BMPs; 5) train planners and engineers on large wood installation techniques; and 6) offer a beaver co-existence workshop and BDA and brush-packing low-tech techniques for landowners.

Project Benefit

SRF expects that this project will improve landowner awareness and stewardship about restoration opportunities, techniques, and strategies. The various educational trainings will provide guidance on water conservation and water transaction opportunities, co-existence with beavers, utilizing large wood for restoration projects, and sediment and erosion control techniques.
