Sweetwater Creek Ecosystem Restoration

The Nez Perce Tribe (NPT)must replace this project with a new Priority One project (23-NezP-06) Tribal Allotment 369B Habitat Restoration Phase II project. No funds have been expended on this original project.



This replacement is necessary because the Nez Perce Tribe’s USACE Tribal Partnership project, conducted in collaboration with the 23-NezP-05 project, has ended and they cannot move forward any longer as they no longer have the required landowner percentages needed to continue on those tribal allotments.



Therefore, the NPT is replacing this project with the new 23-NezP-06 stream restoration project which NOAA has approved. It is a stream realignment, habitat improvement, and bridge replacement project on Tribal Allotment 369B that addresses fish stranding and passage, aggradation/degradation issues, and simplified habitat .

Expected benefits to target Salmon species include restoration of approximately 1.5 miles of Lower Sweetwater Creek and approximately 36.5 acres of riparian area adjacent to Sweetwater Creek. This project will improve quantity and quality of designated critical habitat for ESA-listed Steelhead and Fall Chinook, and reintroduced Spring Chinook and Coho Salmon.
