Description

This project funded an OWEB staff position to coordinate restoration and conservation work with several Focused Investment Partnership (FIP) initiatives in the Willamette, upper Deschutes, John Day River, Clackamas, and Hood River basins. Each of these collaborative-based, large-scale conservation initiatives focused on salmon/steelhead habitat restoration pursuant to relevant federal recovery, state conservation, and tribal plans. FIP investments are complex and require proactive, ongoing staffing that cannot be adequately provided through existing staff resources because of other competing workload demands. The coordinator was responsible for the development of interagency agreements, managing the review team processes, and reporting for activities undertaken with federal funds.

Project Benefit

The position funded with this project will work with key partners and local entities to ensure successful scoping and implementation of on-the-ground actions that are structured strategically to restore and protect areas to benefit salmon and steelhead.

          Description and scope of the plan implemented
          These Plans all note that salmon recovery can only be achieved through coordinated efforts to build strong conservation partnerships. They also note that coordination of these conservation partnerships is crucial in developing and facilitating implementing strategies for Recovery Plan implementation. This project provides funding for a dedicated partnership coordinator to work with key conservation partners and local entities to facilitate scoping and implementation of restoration actions that support salmon recovery in key habitats throughout Oregon;
