Description

This project placed large wood instream; planted conifer and hardwood trees in the riparian area; replaced culverts or structures with a bridge.

Project Benefit

The addition of large wood to the stream will provide additional pool habitat for summer and winter rearing of salmonids in the short term while young conifers in the riparian zone are growing to a suitable size to provide this important watershed function in the future. In addition to creating pools, returning large wood to the stream will foster stream complexity, increased interaction with the floodplain, and sorting of spawning gravels. The bridge placement will provide unimpeded fish passage for migrating salmonids and lamprey. Stream substrates will also be able to migrate to downstream habitats in a more natural process.
