Description

This project helped fund a Natural Resource Career Camp for 6th - 12th graders in the Northwest. We brought rural and urban youth throughout the region to an education forum camp, and had them interact over a 3.5 day period with professionals in Fisheries, Riparian Habitat, Hydrology, Forestry, Range, Alternative Energy and many others. The project also funded purchase of an Emriver tabletop watershed model for use at the camp.

Project Benefit

As a result of attending the Eastern Oregon Natural Resource 4-H Science Camp, youth will: Increase in their appreciation and enjoyment of the outdoors, natural resources, and science as it related to Salmonid species and those associated with them. Increase in their understanding of natural resource ecology and management and its effect on watersheds. Learn to teach about and provide leadership in natural resources. Become stewards in local natural resources projects that improve aquatic habitat. Develop career and personal interests in natural resources, ecology and management. Gain greater understanding of the differences and similarities between urban and rural environmental perceptions of watershed management. Become aware of the wide diversity of ecosystems present in Eastern Oregon and how it applies to their home environment and aquatic habitats.
