Description

Project Objective: This is a spiritual prayer run for the restoration of the Klamath River Watershed, in unity with all the people’s of the Klamath River Basin.

Project Description: The Salmon Run is a 350 mile spiritual prayer run that takes place over four days, in May every year. The course begins at the mouth of the Klamath River in Klamath, CA and ends at the mouth of the Klamath River in Fort Klamath, OR.

The run consists of members of the Yurok, Hoopa Valley, Karuk and Klamath Tribes, as well as members of those communities. This run began in 2003, and has runners that consist of all age groups from young to elders. One group of the runners will begin at the mouth of the Klamath River and run up through a course on the Trinity River. The other group will begin at the head of the Klamath River and run up to the head of the Klamath River. This is done in relay fashion, and runners join in at different “legs” of the run.

Funds will be used for supporting runners along the routes. Support will include, but not limited to meals, water, camping fees, gas vouchers, shower vouchers, hotels, flyers, banners, water bottles, shirts and other support items as needed.

Project Benefit

Project Benefits: The Salmon Run brings together approximately 1,000 people throughout the 350 mile course, from Northern California to Southern Oregon. This run brings a unique opportunity to bring awareness to the needs of not only the Klamath River Watershed, but also the state of health and decline of the salmon who spawn in the watershed as well. The run will take place in Tribal communities of the Yurok, Hoopa Valley, Karuk and Klamath Tribes. Some of the communities that the course will go through are: Weyhikwew (mouth), Klamath Glen, Errner, Wautek, Weychpues, Panamnik, Athithufuunumpa, Happy Camp, Orlenes, Hoopa, Saratotin, Iron Gate Dam, Keno, Klamath Falls, Modoc Point, Wood River Valley and Fort Klamath.
