Description
This design-build project installed structure in the Washougal River and Timber Creek that will begin rebuilding sediment loads traditionally found in the Washougal River prior to the historical splash damming that occurred immediately upstream of the project area. We imported large diameter woody debris and boulders to increase habitat complexity in the Washougal River and lower Timber Creek. We added salmon carcasses as nutrient enhancement to address decreased nutrient levels every fall and established Timber Creek as a target reach for our annual nutrient loading program. This project is located immediately downstream of Silver Falls and the historic Franks Logging Camp in Skamania County, WA. Work was completed near RM 26.0 on 1,225 feet of the Washougal River and the lower 1,130 feet of Timber Creek. This project will directly benefit ESA-listed summer steelhead in Tier 1 and Tier 2 habitat of the Washougal subbasin.
