Description

The Snohomish Conservation District worked with four private property owners to reforest 15 acres of priority riparian areas along a total of 0.65 stream miles, within the Stillaguamish Confluence. Before receiving this grant, the Conservation District and local project partners had prioritized riparian restoration areas and initiated outreach to landowners to identify and secure permission to complete riparian restoration projects on parcels and reaches within several First and Second Priority sub-basins in the Stillaguamish basin.

This project funded riparian planting in priority sub-basins identified in the Stillaguamish Watershed Chinook Salmon Recovery Plan (2005) and/or the Stillaguamish Confluence Integrated Riparian Stewardship Action Plan (2017), there are two worksites which includes the following properties:

*Lampert: Completed 4.5 acres of riparian planting and weed control along 0.29 miles unnamed Tributary 80 in the Lower Pilchuck Creek sub-basin (2nd Riparian Priority in the Chinook Salmon Recovery Plan). Fish use within the project reach includes documented coho, chum, pink, and steelhead (Chinook: gradient accessible). Stewardship will continue at this site using funding from RCO SRFB agreement 21-1084.

*Arlington Christian School: Completed 1.6 acres riparian planting and weed control along 0.17 miles in the Portage Creek sub-basin (2nd Tier Priority in the Stillaguamish Confluence Integrated Riparian Stewardship Action Plan). Fish use within the project reach includes coho, steelhead, chum, and pink (Chinook: gradient accessible). Stewardship will continue at this site using funding from RCO SRFB agreement 21-1084 (as is appropriate for the site).

*Kuhnhenn: Completed 5.2 acres riparian planting and weed control along 0.4 miles of an unnamed tributary to Ashton Creek, and Ashton Creek in the Squire Creek sub-basin (1st Riparian Priority in the Chinook Salmon Recovery Plan). Fish use within the project reach includes Chinook, steelhead, coho, chum, and pink. Stewardship will continue at this site using funding from RCO SRFB agreement 21-1084.

*Denovan Phase I: Completed 3.7 acres of Riparian Planting and weed control along 0.08 miles as 1st phase of riparian restoration along an F-type stream in the Lower SF Stillaguamish (2nd Riparian Priority in the Chinook Salmon Recovery Plan; 1st Tier Priority in the Stillaguamish Confluence Integrated Riparian Stewardship Action Plan). While Statewide Integrated Fish Distribution database does not document salmon use in the reach, landowners have observed coho spawning within the project reach. Stewardship of the initial 3.7 acres planted under this agreement will continue at this site using funding from RCO SRFB agreement 21-1084 and ECY agreement WQC-2022-SnohCD-00083. SCD will use funding from 21-1084 and ECY agreement WQC-2022-SnohCD-00083 to plant an additional 2.3 acres as Phase II of the Project.
