Description

The Lower Columbia RFEG installed wood structures in lower 850 of Dougan creek and in 1,200 of mainstem Washougal River along a total project length of 2,050 ft, of to trap coarse sediments originating from Dougan creek. This restoration project is based on observations of rapid development of spawning habitat due to high rate of coarse sediment delivery from Dougan creek. The project has already created new spawning and rearing habitat used by ESA-listed chinook, coho and summer and winter steelhead, along with lamprey, cutthroat and rainbow trout. The original scope included wood placement on private landowners on the left bank between the mouth of Dougan Creek and the Skamania County property but come time to sign landowner agreements these landowners backed out. That said, the scope of the project was still met just by installing woody debris on Skamania County and WA DNR property.
