Description

This project took place in the Holman Flats area of the Skokomish South Fork. Excess sediment comes from impacted areas in the upper watershed such as the Holman Flats area. This area was logged and cleared and instream LWD was removed in preparation for construction of a new reservoir. The reservoir was not built, which resulted in excess sedimentation and fish habitat degradation. This project expanded on the previously implemented and very successful South Fork LWD Enhancement Phase I and II Projects (PRISM # 06-2302 and 07-1657). This phase of the project extends downstream of Phase I and II, and involved installing 10 engineered log jams and planted 1.1 riparian acres along 0.1 miles of mainstem South Fork Skokomish River. Match for this project was funded by the Floodplains by Design program.

Project Benefit

The goal of this project is to install 18 engineered log jams to increase cover and pools for multiple species of fish.
