Description

This project supported the continuing efforts of SRSC, The Swinomish Tribe, Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, PSE and Skagit County to realize the ultimate goal of restoring habitat complexity, channel sinuosity, floodplain connections, and structure to Hansen and Red Creeks from Highway 20 downstream to Minkler Road (AKA Reach 5). This proposal helps to accomplish this goal by acquiring properties in addition to those already secured under SRFB project #10-1856, and the Hansen Creek Design effort funded under SRFB project #13-1060.

In particular, this project targeted acquisition of a ~20 acres of property owned by the Soldate family estate and a 11 easement from John Snyder. Once acquired, these properties support restoration objectives of relocating channels to historic locations can be realized across a sizable portion of the Reach 5 floodplain

Project Benefit

To acquire key salmon and steelhead habitat parcels and to design a floodplain restoration project benefitting Chinook and steelhead.
