Description

The Nisqually Land Trust proposed to permanently protect 0.26 mile of Nisqually River shoreline along the Pierce County side of the McKenna Reach, including approximately 12 acres of floodplain and forested bluff habitat. The bluff contains remnant old-growth Douglas-fir and western red cedar, and a side-channel that runs along the toe of the slope. This project would have benefited Chinook, Coho, Chum, Pinks, and Steelhead.

NLT spent funds pursuing an appraisal and coordinating discussions with the landowner all partners involved. Unfortunately, this project could no longer move forward and was not completed.

Project Benefit

Permanently protect existing forested river shoreline and off-channel habitat in support of WRIA 11 Chinook and Steelhead recovery goals.
