Tumalum Creek LTPBR Phase 3

A total of 93 LTPBR structures were built in phase 3 as well as maintenance of existing structures in Phases 1 & 2. We built 25 beaver dam analogs (BDAs), 14 post-assisted log structures, 60log jams, and maintained existing structures. In particular, we built up 8 BDAs by making them taller and wider in order to create larger ponds for releasing more beaver in future phases. We were successful in creating ~ 3 foot deep ponds upstream of 6 BDAs. We also created numerous smaller ponds to help beaver have temporary cover (and hopefully the beaver will increase the size of these ponds). We noted large numbers of juvenile steelhead in these all the ponds that we built. We also took extra precautions to build secondary dams downstream of large BDAs to facilitate upstream and downstream migration of juvenile and adult steelhead. 

The overall goals have not changed with the purpose of promoting self-sustaining, natural stream processes that improve spawning and rearing habitat for Snake River Steelhead through re-establishment of beaver populations and installation of BDAs and PALS in Tumalum Creek.
