Description
The Okanogan Conservation District completed a reach assessment for Lower Loup Loup Creek but was unable to finalize the preliminary design for floodplain restoration. Over the course of the project, the Okanogan CD gathered and synthesized historical and existing data to characterize watershed and reach-scale aquatic and riparian habitat conditions, hydrology, and geomorphology. This assessment outlined the past and present conditions of the stream and provided recommendations for restoration actions to enhance habitat quality.
While the project’s scope changed significantly over its duration, the reach assessment remained the primary focus and was successfully completed. Developed under a contract with Confluence Environmental Company, the reach assessment synthesized existing data and highlighted actionable recommendations for habitat restoration. The project achieved its primary goal of delivering a comprehensive reach assessment, offering a robust foundation for future restoration efforts, providing insights into the stream’s habitat conditions and recommendations to improve steelhead rearing and spawning habitats.
Loup Loup Design (worksite 2) preliminary design was not completed. Since worksite 2 incurred some initial costs, the worksite could not be amended out. Final metrics are n/a and cost $0.
Project Benefit
Assessment: Identify and compile existing data sources for the Loup Loup Creek watershed, assess habitat conditions within the anadromous zone and identify data daps. Use this data to develop and prioritize restoration actions to increase the quantity and quality of habitat for rearing and spawning steelhead. Design: Project discontinued due to landowner disengagement. Utilized design and assessments from 30% design in the reach assessment
