An underwater video camera was operated in the flume of the Shasta River Fish Counting Facility (SRFCF) 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from August 29, 2024, until December 19, 2024. A total of 4,982 fall run Chinook Salmon, 51 Coho Salmon, and 68 adult steelhead trout were estimated to have entered the Shasta River during the 2024 spawning season. Fish counting operations at the Scott River Fish Counting Facility began on September 13, 2024, and ended on December 19, 2024. The total number of Chinook Salmon that entered the Scott River during the 2024 season is estimated to be 876 fish. A net total of 1,052 Coho was estimated in the Scott River during the season. A net total of 105 adult steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were observed moving upstream through the Scott River Fish Counting Facility during the 2024 season.
Project Benefit
Adult abundance and trend information is critical monitoring information identified in both the Federal and State Coho Salmon recovery plans that are required for listing status updates and tracking the effectiveness of restoration actions. Without this basic population information delisting criteria could not be met. Accomplishments
