Description

The SRF Fish Passage Design and Engineering Field School is a professional and technical course designed to train engineers, planners, agency personnel, and biologists how to assess, prioritize, and develop better plans to treat fish passage barriers. The course highlights the California Department of Fish and Wildlife chapter XII in the Stream Habitat Manual, CDFW Fish Passage Evaluation at Stream Crossings, and NOAA Fisheries Guidelines for Salmonid Passage at Stream Crossings.

Project Benefit

This project would train engineers and watershed restoration planners on fish passage design and engineering techniques and fish passage barrier assessment methods. The curriculum would address fish passage barriers as a limiting factor and include a range of fish passage considerations. Participants will benefit from group exercises and one-on-one consultations. SRF would do targeted outreach to South and Central Coast tribes to better engage tribes in fish passage planning.
