Description

The Lassen Tributaries Post-Dixie Fire Watershed Assessment is a multi-faceted planning project between the Sierra Institute, Lassen National Forest, Point Blue Restoration Sciences, and the South Lassen Watersheds Group to develop and prioritize shovel-ready stream and meadow restoration projects across the Antelope, Battle, Deer, and Mill Creek watersheds. The Project will develop and prioritize implementation activities covered under the West Lassen Headwaters NEPA ? a 140,000 acre public lands planning effort with a decision expected in Spring 2024. The proposed stream and meadow prioritization will enable rapid implementation post-NEPA decision to improve the resilience of these critical watersheds.

Project Benefit

Headwater restoration projects have been shown to reduce upland erosion, enhance groundwater storage, increase sediment storage, and increase structural complexity in degraded stream reaches. The result of project identified actions, when implemented, will boost the supply of cold and clean water into project watersheds, which has been identified as a critical component for the recovery of winter and spring run Chinook and Steelhead in the Sacramento River(NMFS, 2014).
