Description

The project will develop 100% engineered design plans to redistribute large wood and sediment within approximately 1000 feet of stream and to allow anadromous fish passage past an LDA in the Moody Creek watershed. There is a total of 3.6 miles of (steelhead) intrinsic potential in the Moody Creek watershed, including habitat available in tributaries to Moody Creek. Allowing adult salmonid fish passage past the LDA will restore access to 3.1 miles of habitat. Complex habitat structures will be designed below the existing LDA and will extend approximately 500 feet downstream. The project will also develop a conceptual plan for installing simple instream structures in 500 feet of channel above the LDA to retain sediment. Additionally, this project will result in plans that address fluvial-geomorphic processes in lower Moody Creek, which are essential to developing high value ecosystems that support salmon recovery.

Project Benefit

The project will yield multiple benefits, but the primary goal is to complete designs that, when implemented, will improve instream complexity and restore the channel bed in Moody Creek. Moody Creek and its tributaries have 3.6 miles of anadromous salmonid habitat, of which 0.5 miles are accessible. The project will restore access to spawning habitat and rearing habitat, will redistribute wood, retain and sort sediment within the project reach, and provide passage to adult salmonids.
