Description

This project is the construction of 36 large wood features containing a total of 160 pieces of LW. Most of the logs for the project will be sourced from the riparian zone, some may be purchased; all the logs will be redwood and Douglas fir. The project is along 1.7 miles of West Fork Sproul Creek, and once complete will restore approximately 5.7 acres of aquatic habitat. The completion of this project will result in the project reach consisting of 126 LW pieces per mile, which exceeds the SONCC target value of very good, and 1.62 key pieces per 100 meters, which exceeds the SONCC target value of good. This project will provide habitat to Coho, Chinook and steelhead. Additionally, this project will not impact any wetland habitat and 300 conifer seedlings and 100 native plants will be planted along the project reach. Project features are not located on wetlands, heavy equipment and vehicles will not drive over wetland areas.

Project Benefit

This project will benefit salmonids by increasing the availability of velocity refugia, increasing instream shelter, increasing off channel habitat availability, and by capturing and sorting spawning substrate.
