Description

This project will remedy an existing concrete ford vehicle road crossing which is a barrier to steelhead migration by decommissioning the concrete ford and replacing it with a structure across Cachagua Creek, designed through a FRGP PD grant Q1940407. The project is designed to improve fish passage conditions, enhances sediment transport and competence and improves flood conveyance.

Project Benefit

Trout Unlimited and RCD of Monterey County have conducted a focused effort to address the migration barriers in the Carmel River. Removal of this ford (Bradley-Ringer Ford) is the 4th of 4 identified migration barriers in the Cachagua and Finch Creek tributaries (Finch lies upstream of Cachagua). This will result in access to over 8 miles of spawning and rearing habitat that was unavailable to steelhead in most years.
