Description

The Latah Soil and Water Conservation District (Latah SWCD) will plan its next phase of steelhead habitat restoration projects in the Potlatch River watershed. This project is a continuation of planning funds received from PCSRF Project 006 19 CW. This proposal will allow Latah SWCD to continue efforts to identify and prioritize near and long-term project concepts, incorporate new information gained from recent multi-agency assessments and guidance documents, coordinate with agency partners and landowners/land managers, develop conceptual project designs, and solicit funding for full project design and/or project implementation from multiple funding sources, including PCSRF.

Project Benefit

This project is a continuation of Latah SWCD’s strategic planning efforts to maximize steelhead habitat restoration efforts in the Potlatch River watershed. Previous funding support provided through Potlatch Planning, Phase 1, leveraged over $1.5 million dollars through multiple funding sources. Maintaining this project planning momentum provides consistent capacity and efficiency for Latah SWCD to continue these efforts.

This project will build on products developed during Potlatch Planning, Phase 1 such as the Potlatch Watershed Fish Passage Analysis – Phase 1, which was developed for several high priority Potlatch River subwatersheds. Expanding and solidifying collaborative partnerships with land managing agencies such as U.S. Forest Service and Idaho Department of Lands was another outcome of Potlatch Planning, Phase 1, and additional planning funds will allow Latah SWCD to further these relationships with a goal of enhancing strategic planning efforts for steelhead and water quality projects on private and public lands in the Potlatch for the greatest steelhead benefits.
