Description

The Tribe intends to continue riparian/floodplain purchases, and depending on progress made on related due diligence, this project would contribute to staff time necessary for land purchase/easement due diligence and/or associated riparian or in-stream restoration efforts on Tribal parcels of interest. If parcels or easements are already in progress by the time we access this award funding, this funding will assist with Tribal staff participation in implementation of related in-stream or riparian habitat restoration on the property. This could include contributing to reforestation of existing riparian stream reaches owned by the Tribe or its partners within the Dungeness watershed or other streams within our U&A.

Project Benefit

Purchasing and restoring riparian areas provide the best opportunity for the Tribe to prevent structures that reduce floodplain habitat from being built. These efforts also provide opportunities for increasing habitat within the floodplain, such as by restoring and reconnecting potential side-channel habitat/refugia for salmonids.
