Description
There are several projects ongoing within the nearly 10 mile long reach of Ohop Creel in need of restoration. These funds will support one or more of the following instream and riparian restoration treatments: 1. Excavating a new, sinuous channel and flooding it to divert Ohop out of its ditch along approximately 4 miles of creek ; 2. Adding LWD to add complexity and to better connect Ohop to its floodplain along 4 miles of creek; and 3. Riparian planting across nearly 300 acres of restoring floodplain.
Project Benefit
Ohop Creek was ditched and disconnected from its floodplain from Ohop Lake to its confluence with the Nisqually River. The Nisqually Indian Tribe and our recovery partners, the South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group (SPSSEG) and the Nisqually Land Trust, have been purchasing property and restoring Ohop Creek over the last 20 years. This funding would be used in conjunction with other funding to continue restoration of this vital salmon stream.
