Kenai River Streambank Restoration on the Mullen Conservation Easement

This project will leverage a trained volunteer work force from Kenai Peninsula Stream Watch, a volunteer river stewardship and education program, to complete a habitat restoration and protection project on the Kenai River. Volunteers will install spruce tree revetments, revegetate eroded river bank slopes, and install and improve signage to clarify where shore-based angling is not legally permitted.

The benefits of this project include long-term salmon habitat protection and on-the-ground restoration of degraded habitat. Rehabilitating the site will restore self-sustaining natural ecosystem function and processes to the river bank, reducing erosion and restoring and protecting riparian vegetation to provide valuable salmon habitat. Signage will help protect the bank from further negative anthropogenic effects.
