Description

Create/construct enhanced and complex channel habitat within 1.5 miles of a seven mile reach of the mainstem Siletz River Estuary channel. Construct large wood structures across two properties/sites within the seven mile reach to slow velocities, sort sediments, and capture bedload and silts under channel forming conditions

Funding Opportunity Number: NOAA-NMFS-WCRO-2022-2007156

Program/Project Duration: January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2025. The target date for finalizing implementation is November-December 2023

Project Benefit

Exspected benefits - 1.5 miles of improved mainstem estuary habitat directed at supporting juvenile salmonids as well as other estuarine rearing fishes such as starry flounder, various sculpins, rock fish, various perch and bait fishes such as herring. The Tribe is targeting construction of 48 log and rock jams located in intertidal habitat. The expected results are a minimum of 48 sand bars and scour pools associated with the 48 jams. Additionally the Tribe expects a portion of the log jams to not accumulate enough sediment to fill over the jam and form a large sand bar and rather create more traditional stream like log jam habitat wherein fish can hold and or reside and use the logs for cover etc.
