Description
Wahkiakum Conservation District worked with three landowners to improve riparian habitat and to restore 4400 feet of instream habitat on the Elochoman River. Twenty structures were installed to increase habitat quantity and diversity, improve both stream bank and channel stability, and to create side channel habitat. The project managed noxious weeds as a component of riparian vegetation establishment. The project benefits coho, steelhead, chinook, and chum salmon.
Project Benefit
ahkiakum Conservation District will work with three landowners to improve 18 acres of riparian habitat and 4410 feet of in-stream habitat along the Elochoman River. Large woody debris structures will be placed to improve habitat quantity and diversity for salmonids. The project addresses priority limiting factors effecting priority life stages of Winter Steelhead, Coho, Chum, and Fall Chinook salmon.
