FY 2021 Hoh River Habitat Assessment Surveys

This project will use spatial data gathering tools (e.g., GIS enabled Trimble devices) to collect and analyze habitat information to identify areas needing restorative salmon habitat work in the Hoh River Watershed. Collected information will be stored in an internet-enabled SQL server that can readily be incorporated into ESRI online mapping tools. Instream and riparian habitat inventories will identify where degradation has taken place from invasive species, silt, lack of woody debris and vegetation, lack of streamflow, and cool water. The project will also include a snorkeling component to identify preferred juvenile rearing habitat. The project would support the involvement of the tribe’s GIS administer, Timber, Fish, and Wildlife (TFW) biologist, a water quality specialist, and fish biologists and technicians.

This project will identify areas needing restorative salmon habitat work in the Hoh River Watershed. This project has increasing importance as the Tribe continues to have initial discussions about implementing strategies to adapt to climate change.
