Description

This project utilized spatial data gathering tools (e.g., GIS-enabled Trimble devices) to collect and analyze habitat information to identify areas needing restorative salmon habitat work in the Hoh River Watershed. Information collected was stored in an internet-enabled SQL server that could readily be incorporated into ESRI online mapping tools. Instream and riparian habitat inventories identified where degradation had taken place from invasive species, silt, lack of woody debris and vegetation, lack of streamflow, and cool water. The project also included a snorkeling component to identify preferred juvenile rearing habitat. The project supported the involvement of the tribes GIS administrator, Timber, Fish, and Wildlife (TFW) biologist, a water quality specialist, and fish biologists and technicians.

Project Benefit

This project will identify areas needing restorative salmon habitat work in the Hoh River Watershed. This project has increasing importance as the Tribe continues to have initial discussions about implementing strategies to adapt to climate change.
