Description
The northern pike Esox lucius is an invasive species in Southcentral Alaska, and its establishment has resulted in salmon and trout population losses throughout the region. This project will remove the last known reproducing population of invasive northern pike in the Anchorage area, allowing for restoration of salmon populations in the Fire Creek Drainage and preventing local pike from spreading to proximate waters that are vulnerable to pike invasion.
Project Benefit
This project will eradicate invasive northern pike from the Fire Creek Drainage, restoring salmon habitat and preventing local pike from disbursing to other salmon systems in Knik Arm or being illegally introduced from this population.
