Description

The project funded the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribes participation in the Hood Canal and Eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca Lead Entity Process. The funding was specifically used to fund tribal staff membership on the Hood Canal Coordinating Council’s (HCCC) Technical Advisory Group (TAG). Technical Advisory Group (TAG) members were identified in Phase I. LE staff solicited and appointed local (Hood Canal and Puget Sound) professionals with technical expertise related to salmon habitat recovery. This expertise could be related to disciplines such as planning, hydrology, biology, ecology, climate change, and other scientific concentrations. There was no limit on the number of TAG members that could be selected to participate. TAG members evaluated and scored projects independently with pre-determined technical criteria for the given funding round on the basis of the information provided in the Salmon Recovery Funding Board (SRFB) applications. TAG was also asked to provide comments in written format so that information could be collated and shared with the sponsor.

Project Benefit

This project will help ensure that the habitat portions of the Summer Chum and Chinook Salmon Recovery Plans are implemented in accordance with the lead entity area overseen by the Hood Canal Coordinating Council. These activities include developing both short term (3 Year Work Program) and long term (Habitat Work Schedule) project lists and evaluating and ranking project proposals.
