Description

MS Siletz river estuary habitat restoration actions phase ll (wood structures) across 1.5 miles of river. Over 900 logs and 250 boulders used to anchor.

Funded 8/1/2021 - 12/31/2024

Project Benefit

Observed benefits - 1.5 miles of improved mainstem estuary habitat directed at supporting juvenile salmonids as well as other freshwater rearing fishes such as various sculpins and lamprey. The Tribe created over 50 log and rock jams located on the mainstem siletz river. The results for each jam typically included 3-5 scour pools (averaging 9 square meters each) created across the full jam foot print as well as a larger accumulation of gravels above and below each jam and larger pool riffle influences associated with the broader channel cross sections (200 ft river width on average).

Because the project is located on the lower mainstem river the Tribe was focused on beneficial uses of anadromous fishes (salmonids and lamprey). Because nearly all tributary mouths are located upstream of the project area and nearly all mainstem spawning activities are located upstream of the project are the is therefore providing benefits to hundreds of thousands if not several million fish.
