Description
Implementation is complete for the Hare Creek and Bunker Gulch Road Decommissioning Implementation Project. This project included the upgrading and decommissioning of 37 sediment delivery features and approximately 2.5 miles of maintained and abandoned inner gorge, streamside and mid-slope forest roads on steep slopes. Treating these features prevented more than 4,675 yd3 of deleterious fine and coarse grained sediment from entering the Hare Creek and Bunker Gulch watersheds. The overall success of this project represents a strong contribution toward the restoration and long-term preservation and protection of salmonid habitat in the Hare Creek and Bunker Gulch watersheds.
Project Benefit
Instream spawning and rearing conditions should improve in Bunker Gulch and Hare Creek due to the removal of riparian road segments. Passage in Bunker Gulch will be improved due to the removal of two culvert crossings which were partial barriers.
