Description

Obtaining viable salmonid population parameters was accomplished by implementing 5 tasks which included 1) adult trapping to monitor adult returns and marine survival, 2) redd surveys to determine fish: redd ratios, 3) outmigrant smolt trapping to ascertain abundance and the temporal pattern of outmigrating smolts and pre-smolts, 4) juvenile surveys to determine juvenile spatial structure and distribution and 5) conduct molecular and genetic analysis to quantify VSP diversity characteristics. PCSRF FY2014 funds were spent within the allowable award period even though the project ended outside the award period. Work occurred from 2018 to 2020.

Project Benefit

The CMP emphasizes the need for long-term, intensive monitoring at fixed Life Cycle Monitoring Stations (LCMS) to evaluate the effects of changing ocean conditions on salmonid

populations. The Scott Creek LCMS provides high-quality data on the status and trends of anadromous salmonids and can inform management in addition to advance our understanding of the ecology and dynamics of Coho salmon and steelhead populations in central California watersheds and elsewhere.
