Description

The project provided daily fish husbandry of the approx. 380 juvenile Coho Salmon retained from each MBSTP spawning event in the winters of 2017, 2018 and 2019. In addition, mature fish from the program were returned to MBSTP Kingfisher Flat Conservation Hatchery for spawning in winters 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20. The project also included appropriate tagging of program fish and preparation of a genetically informed spawning matrix. All FY15 funds were spent in the appropriate window.

Project Benefit

The main benefit of the program is to maintain the genetic lineage of the Scott Creek (Santa Cruz Co.) Coho Salmon population, thereby preventing extirpation of this southern-most population of the endangered Central California Coast ESU.
