Description
Summer habitat and basin-wide snorkel surveys were conducted in Redwood Creek (Marin Co.) in summer/fall of 2017, 2018 and 2019 to determine juvenile Coho Salmon abundance. Juvenile Coho Salmon tissue samples were collected in 2017, 2018 and 2019 for genetic parentage and sibling analysis. Genetic analysis was conducted at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center in Santa Cruz, CA.
Project Benefit
This project provided evidence of successful spawning of adult Coho Salmon released in Redwood Creek. The release of adult Coho is a relatively new recovery technique, and documenting its effectiveness will provide important data that will allow resource managers to determine the best recovery actions in severely depressed populations of endangered Central California Coast ESU Coho Salmon.
