Description

This project continued the Lagunitas Creek watershed Life Cycle Monitoring station (LCM), along with adult spawner surveys on Redwood and Pine Gulch Creeks which contribute to California Coastal Salmonid Monitoring Plan (CMP) measures of progress toward recovery from August 2017 through October 2021. This included an absolute measure of adult abundance from a DIDSON counting facility in Lagunitas Creek, and using the DIDSON counting data and the Lagunitas Creek adult spawning survey estimates to develop a redd to adult calibration estimate for use throughout the diversity stratum. All FY13, FY14, and FY15 funds were spent within their appropriate award windows

Project Benefit

The long-term coho salmon and steelhead trout monitoring program produces population estimates for three different fresh water life stages of Coho Salmon in the Lagunitas, Redwood, and Pine Gulch Creek Watersheds. The monitoring program tracks cohorts from their juvenile stage, through smolting and outmigration, and their return as adults. The data produced directly addresses goals and objectives from the CMP (Adams et al. 2011) and accomplishes tasks from the Recovery Strategy for California Coho Salmon (CDFG 2004) and the Recovery Plan for Evolutionarily Significant Unit of Central California Coast Coho Salmon (NMFS 2012). This program follows approved protocols (Reichmuth et al. 2010) using methods described in the CDFW Fish Bulletin 180 (Adams et al. 2011).
