Description    


The principal goal of the project was to conduct several life-stage based monitoring activities to assess the current abundance, survival rates and population trends of these salmonids. All FY14 funds were spent within the appropriate award window.



This project had four primary monitoring components including to:

1) estimate the abundance of Chinook Salmon redds using spawning ground

surveys;

2) estimate the abundance of returning adult Chinook Salmon (escapement) through use of sonar (DIDSON) to observe immigration;

3) estimate the abundance of Chinook smolts emigrating from Redwood Creek

using mark-recapture methods and a rotary screw trap in the lower river; and

4) use juvenile and adult abundance estimates to track population trends and infer Chinook salmon marine survival and maturation rates.

Project Benefit    


These data will be used to develop a life cycle model for Redwood Creek Chinook salmon.
