Description

Spawning surveys (redds, live fish, and carcasses) to produce adult abundance estimates for Humboldt Bay populations of anadromous salmonids for return years 2017/2018, 2018/2019, and 2019/2020. Operation of a Life Cycle Station to produce estimates of marine and freshwater survival rates for Freshwater Creek (Humboldt Bay, CA). Marine survival rates were produced for coho salmon smolt cohorts from 2016, 2017, and 2018 returning as adults in 2017/2018, 2018/2019, and 2019/2020. Freshwater survival rates (parr to smolt outmigration and early emigration) were produced for cohorts outmigrating in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Additional analyses that we completed as part of this project included further evaluation of juvenile life history variation at the Freshwater Creek Life Cycle Station and a population monitoring effort for the Freshwater Creek coho salmon population. All FY13, FY14, and FY15 funds were spent within their appropriate award windows.

Project Benefit

Understanding spawning habitat will potentially improve future restoration efforts.
