Description
This project designed a fisheries restoration plan for 1.5 miles of lower Horse Creek that can create year round rearing habitat and spawning gravel for listed coho salmon through wood structure installation and floodplain relief. FY2012 funds were spent prior to expiration.
Project Benefit
Increase rearing habitat and spawning gravel by developing a restoration plan aimed to directly enhance water quality, riparian dysfunction, spawning habitat, and rearing habitat.

Description and scope of the plan implemented | |
The Horse Creek Channel Realignment and Side Channel Construction Project is the design developed for this project. The project area was divided into three subbasins on the main stem of Horse Creek and the chosen design
recommended restoration actions within the Upper and Lower Reaches. The Upper Reach design consists of major excavation work to realign the channel (Realigned Channel) to a more sinuous course and to create four side channels. The Lower Reach design consists of excavating one side channel on a large River Right terrace below Middle Creek. Wood structures will be added to the both the mainstem and side channels. Additionally, at least
two off-channel features will be created and connected to the side channels and or the mainstem. |
