Description

The purpose of this project is to plan and design a channel and floodplain restoration that will rehabilitate spawning and rearing habitat at the Stanley Wakefield Wilderness Area at Kerr Park on the Stanislaus River for listed California Central Valley (CCV) steelhead Oncorhynchus mykiss, with ancillary benefits to Chinook Salmon O. tshawytscha. The project will yield baseline data and analysis for 100% design plans that will ultimately lead to the enhancement and restoration of up to 28 acres of channel, floodplain and upland habitats.

Project Benefit

This Project will design a large (~28-acre) channel, floodplain and side channel restoration within the Stanley Wakefield Wilderness Area at Kerr Park on the Stanislaus River. The Project when implemented will excavate perched floodplain and remnant side channels, as well as create 3-4 spawning riffles over ~1 river mile in the main river to improve spawning conditions for adult salmonids.
