In total, 2.48 miles of streamside road was decommissioned, including 13 features exhibiting the potential for future erosion and sediment delivery. It total, the project is estimated to have prevented at least 4,616 yd3 of sediment from being eroded and delivered to Soldier Creek. Additionally, the road removal project has reduced the overall road density in the basin by approximately 20% (or more) and has contributed to the normalization of surface water hydrology in the lower, streamside portions of Soldier Creek and tributaries crossed by the project roads. This project also provided access and large woody material that could be used and invaluable for a concurrently implemented wood loading project nearby

Project Benefit

Permanently decommissioning 2.48 miles of streamside riparian roads along the mainstem of Soldier Creek which will prevent sediment delivery into a focus species stream. This project will also start the process of addressing the following tasks: UC-NCSW- Reduce road densities by 10 percent over the next 20 years, prioritizing high risk areas in historical habitats.
