Description

Columbia Land Trust used this funding to permanently protect 169 acres of high-quality shoreline, riparian, and associated uplands habitat on the East Fork Lewis River, 1.5 miles west of the Clark and Skamania County Line and Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The site had been subdivided into 33, 5-acre residential lots and includes 5,280 lineal feet of shoreline, as well as springs and seeps on the adjoining hillside within the project site.
This project is located in Reach 17. This is a Tier 1 Reach for protection of summer steelhead, and supports a full range of life stages, including spawning, egg incubation, fry colonization, juvenile rearing, pre-spawning migrant, and pre-spawning holding. The Lower Columbia Fish Recovery Board noted in April 2004 that the greatest change in population performance (for summer steelhead) would occur if conditions in the reach degrade.”
Funding partners included Clark County Conservation Futures, East Fork Conservation Fund.

Project Benefit

The goal of the project is to protect intact habitat from degradation. The objective of the project is to protect salmon refugia and habitat that is part of a key ecological process.
