Description
Cascade Land Conservancy (now Forterra) used this funding to help acquire the underlying fee interest on the Pearsons Eddy project, 246 acres of agricultural floodplain on the lower Snoqualmie River. The action leveraged federal funds directed towards purchase of less than fee interest and restoration of these properties. This reach has been identified in key watershed reports as a critical corridor for Chinook and other salmonids migrating to spawning grounds on the Snoqualmie, and prioritized in the WRIA 7 Near Term Action Agenda as one of the Snohomishs top focus areas for protection and restoration. Principal habitat limiting factors identified include loss of floodplain connectivity and complexity, loss of palustrine wetlands and riparian vegetation, and loss of off-channel habitat. The Pearsons Eddy project addresses these factors by restoring hydrologic connectivity and processes, opening significant off-channel rearing habitat, and re-establishing palustrine wetlands.
Project Benefit
The goal of the project is to protect degraded habitat from further degradation with the intent to restore the habitat. The objective of the project is to protect degraded salmon refugia, and habitat part of key ecological processes.
