Description

This project is to support the PSNERP design process and authorization through restoration feasibility planning, community and stakeholder outreach, and property acquisition in the lower Duckabush River and Estuary. Acquisition of 1 parcel occurred in the historic floodplain; the site of the former Duckabush Brinnon Fire Station. Project tasks included building demolition, well decommissioning, septic system removal, and invasive weed control. The overall goal is to restore tidal regime and connectivity to support rearing juvenile summer chum and Chinook in the Duckabush River.
The river is used by Puget Sound Chinook and Hood Canal summer chum salmon, and Puget Sound steelhead, all of which are listed as threatened with extinction under the federal Endangered Species Act, as well as by Puget Sound/Strait of Georgia coho salmon, which are a federal species of concern.

Project Benefit

To support the design of the Hwy 101 causeway removal and reconstruction of the new hwy 101 bridge as well as acquisition of Key properties to complete this future restoration work.
