Description

Jefferson County acquired one property (two parcels) at 151 Fremont Ave. located on the floodplain of the Big Quilcene River (.66 acres). Improvements were removed and the land was restored to native vegetation and added to the inventory of existing protected open space needed in order to eventually implement the Lower Big Quilcene Restoration Design. The purpose of the Lower Big Quilcene Restoration Design, a project of HCSEG and its partners, is to reconnect the lower river with its floodplain and distributory channels in order to support the recovery of Hood Canal Summer Chum and other salmonids.

Project Benefit

The actual outcome of the project is consistent with the original stated purpose. The Big Quilcene restoration design is under development by HCSEG as the necessary protected open space geography gradually grows.
