Description

This project included expanding spawning ground surveys and involved using snorkel surveys for the development of geo-referenced spawning distribution data collection for map referencing to enhance the utility of archived spawning distribution data. The spawning surveys included live/dead, carcass, and redd counts. The surveys occurred on a weekly basis by one technician and covered approximately two to five miles per week from December through October.

Project Benefit

This project will allow the Hoh Tribe to more thoroughly detect changes to spawning distribution within the watershed by increasing the total survey coverage both temporally and spatially, providing more accurate escapement estimates. Understanding the dynamics of spawning distribution will help improve accuracy of abundance forecasting models and will be useful in guiding habitat restoration, fishery planning, and conservation efforts.
