Description
This project completed the first steps in eliminating Elodea from the Alexander Creek drainage at Alexander Lake and Sucker Lake Complex. These lakes were treated with diquat dibromide to eliminate Elodea biomass, and fluridone, to begin the process of killing Elodea roots. Treatments were extremely successful, removing 80% of Elodea from these waterbodies.
This project utilized funds from PCSRF grant NA17NMF4380170; no funds from this grant were used past its end date.
Project Benefit
Eradicating Elodea from Alexander and Sucker Lakes will remove this invasive species from approximately 425 hectares of lake and stream habitat. In addition to improving salmon habitat, eradication will prevent the spread of Elodea through float planes and other vectors to other Matanuska-Susitna Valley water bodies. Accomplishments
