Description

This project included expanding spawning ground surveys (visual and redd) for steelhead, spring and fall Chinook, and coho. Steelhead surveys generally occur from early-March to late-June, Chinook from mid-August to late-December, and coho from mid-October to mid-February. This project supported Hoh Tribal staff labor and related project expenses to accomplish the work.

Project Benefit

– This project will allow the Hoh Tribe to better detect changes to spawning distribution within the watershed by increasing the total survey coverage both temporally and spatially, providing more accurate escapement estimates. Understanding the dynamics of spawning distribution will help improve accuracy of abundance forecasting models and will be useful in guiding habitat restoration, fishery planning, and conservation efforts.
