Description
The project included the collection of otoliths at juvenile and adult life stages and the subsequent laboratory processing and analysis. The Quinault River Sockeye supplementation hatchery operations, including thermal marking, were funded by other sources. Analysis of hatchery and wild contribution rates to terminal fisheries, hatchery brood stock, and natural spawning escapement was accomplished by Quinault Fisheries staff and was not charged to this funding source.
Staff shortages and a much larger sample size have both resulted in a slower turnaround time for mark identification.
Project Benefit
The Quinault Department of Fisheries (QDFi) uses otolith age data for cohort analysis and thermal mark data to estimate the contribution of hatchery and natural origin sockeye to terminal fisheries, hatchery broodstock and natural spawning escapement. Funding Details |
