Description

The culvert under Golf Club Hill Road on lower Chico Creek blocked approximately 16 miles of high quality upstream spawning and rearing habitat that supports wild populations of coho, Puget Sound steelhead, cutthroat, fall chum and the occasional Chinook. Chico Creek is one of the most productive salmon and steelhead streams in Kitsap County, and in all of WRIA 15. The culvert under Golf Club Hill Road was identified as a barrier to fish passage in the early 2000 ’s as a priority for restoration and has been in various stages of planning since then. Design for removal of the culvert and associated floodplain restoration has been completed. Funding from this project allowed the Tribe to contribute staff time to implement this project. Kitsap County lead construction under a grant from Washington States Brian Abbot Fish Barrier Removal Board. Staff time contributed towards the implementation fish passage improvements, instream structure placement, and riparian treatments in the restored area.

Note conversations occurred with RCO to ensure there is no duplication in metric or fund reporting, i.e this information is not being reported by RCO to the PCSR program.
